My main wedge is still going to be earned at weekends between Easter and Halloween, so I have to factor in loss of earnings. In 2008, NYC and the Montauk Mightyman cost me a total of about four grand. That's a nice little tri-bike... There is a half near where I live on the frozen steppes of New Jersey, the Jerseyman, which is just on a Saturday (May 9th), so that will limit my losses - BUT, I haven't trained since the race on Oct 5th (see upheaval above), and it would give me three months to get ready for 70.3 miles. Actually, now I've written it, that's totally doable.
So. I have to get out of the door and start training again. As a full-time Mr Mum it will be difficult, but once I have a race to aim for I find that motivates me pretty well.
Skydiving starts at the beginning of April. I've got to take my driving knowledge test and then I'll have a US drivers licence (sic). Then I have to save for a car, after which I can get back to the dojo. It's been a year since I've had my face planted into the mat.
That's all for now. Thanks Iain for reminding me to start writing again!

Welcome back ;-)
ReplyDeleteHope all the changes work out for the best. I've always wanted to jump out of a plane, it must be a hell of a feeling. Of course I'd bottle it as soon as I was faced with an open door and a loooooong way down.
PS - Kent is cut off from the world today. They've had 2 inches of snow :-)
Gosh its been ages since I had my face planted in a mat. I have studied Martial arts on and off for most of my life. Most recently Aikido for about a year, and then Ninjutso for about a year and a half. But then My job got me started on traveling and the cost of membership was just too much for the amount of time I could spend. But it was fun. I was also airborne qualified back when in the Army. That was fun.
ReplyDeleteSo now I find my adventure by way of swimming cycling and running. Fun stuff
Well how about that. I was in the British Army for twelve years (airmobile infantry) and had to change dojos a lot because of travelling. I did Shotokan and Kyokushinkai karate-do, aikido, and now I train in the Bujinkan. I especially like Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu.
ReplyDeleteI learned to skydive in the army and was in the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment Freefall Parachute Display Team. If I hadn't have deleted my old 'blog you'd have seen some pics. Maybe I'll dig some out again.
So, you are back huh!
ReplyDeleteJust got a sweet new tri bike in time for St Anthonys!
Welome Back! You've been missed! I was so happy to see your post on my blog.
